Karnak Solstice is a six-bar collection built around theobromine, the naturally occurring stimulant found almost exclusively in the cacao bean, which releases more slowly than caffeine and tapers more gently. Each 30g mini bar pairs high-cacao chocolate with nuts, seeds and savoury depth, giving plant protein and magnesium, a nutrient that contributes to normal muscle function and normal energy-yielding metabolism. A single Noire mini contains approximately 12–15mg of caffeine, against roughly 75mg in an espresso.

Theobromine shares a chemical family with caffeine but behaves differently in the body: a longer, flatter curve rather than a peak and a drop. Cacao is the richest dietary source, and concentration follows cacao percentage, so the Noire 73% bars in this box carry more per gram than a lower-cacao chocolate would. People who find coffee makes them jittery frequently prefer this. People who need a sharp immediate lift usually still want the coffee.

Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to normal energy-yielding metabolism (EFSA-authorised nutrient claims). Cashew and sesame add plant protein, zinc and healthy fats; the cacao and cane sugar add carbohydrates. Enjoy within thirty to forty-five minutes of finishing a session, alongside water and whole-food protein. Recovery nutrition is individual, and no single bar constitutes a recovery plan.

One bar thirty to forty-five minutes before a reformer or pilates class is how a good number of our customers use these. Enough to take the edge off without sitting heavily. Pair with water. As with anything pre-workout, test it on an ordinary day before an important one.

Cacao has been associated with vitality and pleasure for over three thousand years. Montezuma reportedly drank spiced cacao before meeting his consorts, and the genus name Theobroma translates as food of the gods. Modern interest centres on phenethylamine, a compound the brain also produces during moments of attraction, though the research is inconclusive and we will not pretend otherwise. We call this a pleasure ritual rather than a supplement. History has already done the marketing.

Six mini bars of 30g each: two Moosoon (cashew, miso and sesame dark chocolate), two Black Earl (Earl Grey infused dark chocolate) and two Noire (73% pure single-origin dark chocolate).

No emulsifiers, no lecithin, no PGPR, no dairy, no inulin or chicory root, no sugar alcohols. Low-FODMAP compatible at the 30g serving size Monash University lists for dark chocolate. CONTAINS: cashew (tree nut), sesame, and soy (from miso). Not suitable for anyone avoiding soy or sesame.

The Temple of Karnak at Luxor was built and rebuilt across two thousand years, and its rituals centred on renewal, the return of light, the turn of the season. A solstice is a hinge point. This collection is named for the moment in the day when you need turning.

The cacao is harvested, fermented and sun-dried on our family's agroforestry farm in Cameroon. Everyone working it is paid the Anker Living Wage for rural Cameroon: 135,729 CFA a month, about £176 / $180. That works out at the equivalent of £7 a kilo, seven times what most cocoa farmers receive at the farmgate. We don't start from the commodity price and hope a decent income follows.

FAQs

Is Karnak Solstice good for post-workout recovery?

Karnak Solstice was designed as a functional treat for after the pilates class, morning run, or lifting session. Each 30g mini bar contains cashew and sesame (a plant-based contributor of protein and magnesium, a nutrient that contributes to normal muscle function per EFSA-authorised claims), plus naturally occurring carbohydrates from single-origin cacao and organic coconut blossom sugar. Enjoy within 30–45 minutes of finishing. Recovery nutrition is individual, pair with water and whole-food protein for a complete plate.

Can I eat chocolate before a pilates or reformer class?

Yes. Many of our customers reach for one Karnak Solstice mini bar 30–45 minutes before class. The theobromine in cacao is a naturally occurring stimulant that releases energy more slowly than caffeine, which many people describe as lifted but calm. Pair with water and a light meal earlier in the day. Pre-workout nutrition is individual, test how it feels for you.

Is dark chocolate an aphrodisiac?

Cacao has been culturally associated with pleasure and vitality for over 3,000 years. The Aztec ruler Montezuma reportedly drank spiced cacao before meeting his consorts, and the botanical name Theobroma cacao translates as 'food of the gods'. Modern research on cacao's phenethylamine content, a compound the brain also produces during moments of attraction, is interesting but not conclusive. We call Karnak Solstice a functional pleasure ritual, not a supplement. History has already done the marketing.

What is the best chocolate for focus without a caffeine crash?

Karnak Solstice is formulated around theobromine-rich single-origin cacao paired with slow-release nut fats and natural carbohydrates. Theobromine, found almost exclusively in the cacao bean, releases energy more slowly than caffeine, which many people describe as a longer, gentler lift without the sharp peak-and-crash of espresso. Each 30g Noire 73% mini contains approximately 12–15mg of caffeine versus 75mg in an espresso.

Can Karnak Solstice replace my afternoon coffee?

Many of our customers use one mini bar and a large glass of water as their 3pm reset instead of a second coffee. Whether it fully replaces caffeine depends on your tolerance and the day's demands. Each Noire mini delivers approximately 12–15mg of caffeine plus theobromine, a lift without the jitters for many people. Try it for a week before drawing conclusions.

What is theobromine and how does it differ from caffeine?

Theobromine is a natural compound found in the cacao bean. It shares a chemical family with caffeine but acts differently in the body, producing a longer, gentler sense of alertness without the sharp peak-and-crash pattern of coffee. Cacao is the richest known dietary source. In Karnak Solstice, higher-cacao bars like Noire 73% deliver more theobromine per gram than lower-cacao formulations.

Can I eat Karnak Solstice every day?

Yes. Each 30g mini bar is portioned as a daily ritual, not an occasional splurge. A daily serving of dark chocolate has been associated in observational studies with cardiovascular and mood benefits as part of a varied diet. If you are caffeine-sensitive, pair Karnak Solstice with your morning or midday routine rather than the evening.

Is Karnak Solstice suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Karnak Solstice contains cacao (natural caffeine and theobromine), tree nuts (cashew), sesame and soy (from the miso in Moosoon), and bergamot oil via Black Earl. NHS guidance suggests limiting total caffeine to 200mg per day during pregnancy. A full 6-bar box contains approximately 70–90mg of caffeine in total. If you have a tree nut, sesame or soy allergy, this collection is not suitable. Consult your midwife or GP.

What is inside a Karnak Solstice box?

Six 30g mini bars: 2 x Moosoon (cashew, miso and sesame dark chocolate), 2 x Black Earl (Earl Grey infused dark chocolate), and 2 x Noire (73% pure single-origin dark chocolate). Ingredients limited to organic cacao, organic nut butter, organic coconut blossom sugar, cocoa butter, and, in Black Earl, whole organic Earl Grey tea leaves.
